The Mena Recreation Center is located within the neighborhood of 6 October City, Egypt, a new town being developed just outside Cairo and the Giza pyramids. Phase One area includes the Clubhouse and Pool, Indoor Recreation Center, various rooftop gardens, a central connecting pedestrian spine and a passive Lake Garden and Amphitheater. The design uses the sun-moon-star motif as its major visual component to unify the grounds and various uses together. Using the mythology of the celestial spheres and, in particular, the identification of the sun and moon being seen as “metaphors of complimentary opposition,” embodies the philosophy of sports’ more Olympian goals of achievement in body and mind and elevation of the human spirit.
