For the gateway entry project, Serramonte Center teamed up with Caltrans to beautify the entrance to Daly City and the Shopping Center’s off-ramp from Interstate 280. The beautification project reinvisons what was a derelict landscape into an attractive sustainable native landscape. The new outdoor entry landscaping also mirrors the recently renovated interior design, with an emphasis on strong form and seasonal change, creating a zen-like experience both inside and outside the center. The design incorporates a comprehensive strategy to integrate sustainable “green” landscape principles into the new landscape installation: 100% on site storm water infiltration, water conservation practices, climate responsive, zero waste to the landfill, 100% organic soil amendments and mulch and zero pesticides to remove the invasive ice plant. The green upgrades and philosophical approach will be integrated into all of the Center’s future capital improvement projects.
