The Bay Area's first outdoor mall, The Willows Shopping Center of Concord is in the midst of a series of renovation efforts. In the first two phases, new tenants came aboard, building facades had material upgrades and the central courtyard was re-envisioned as a community place for all ages. Shade sails, whimsical flower sculptures and fountains, green wall screens, wooden benches and seasonal plantings all add to a fresh, airy, new vibe. Project identity branding was designed simultaneously for a hip new look for the center. A master plan with a “kit of parts” was created to guide the remaining phases of capital improvements.
